Effortlessness

In Taiji and Qigong we train to use the least amount of effort needed to accomplish any task. This does not mean no effort, but it does mean having the feeling of ease no matter how much energy is expended. When we perform an action poorly and inefficiently, there is the feeling of strain, of wasted movement. There is a balance between effort and effortlessness, finding that place where we accomplish the goal with no wasted energy. Learning to use only as much effort as necessary is one of the goals in our practice and a key ingredient in realizing the benefits of Taiji and Qigong.
